Parent Information

This page explains what NIVA is, what it is not, and how we suggest using it.
1.Designed for parents and young children
NIVA is a developmental play app for children aged 12–72 months. The account, the settings and the progress information belong to the parent; the play activities are for the child.
2.Supervision
Parents and caregivers remain responsible for supervising their child's use of NIVA. We recommend playing together, keeping sessions short and deciding as a family when screen-based play fits into the day.
3.Not a medical or diagnostic tool
NIVA is not a medical device and not a diagnostic tool. It does not detect, diagnose, treat or prevent any condition.
4.Gameplay observations are not clinical assessments
The progress information in NIVA is based only on how activities were played in the app. Results can vary with mood, tiredness, familiarity with touchscreens and many other factors.
This information is not a clinical or developmental assessment. It should not be interpreted as a diagnosis, or as evidence that a child is ahead of or behind other children.
5.If you have concerns
Children develop at their own pace. If you have any concern about your child's development, health or behaviour, please speak to your paediatrician or another qualified professional.
6.Combine NIVA with real-world play
NIVA works best as a small part of a varied day. We encourage parents to combine NIVA activities with real-world play and interaction:
- talk about the activity you have just played together;
- repeat the same idea with toys, books or everyday objects;
- leave plenty of time for movement, outdoor play and free play.
7.No guaranteed outcomes
NIVA activities are developmentally aligned and evidence-informed. They offer practice and exploration; they do not guarantee any developmental or educational result.
