NIVA

For parents

Why NIVA exists, and how to make it a small, useful part of your child's day.

Why NIVA exists

Parents of young children are offered a great deal of screen content, and much of it is built to hold attention rather than to support play with a purpose.

NIVA is a calmer alternative: short, developmentally aligned activities for children aged 12–72 months, with the parent kept informed and involved.

Why purposeful play matters

Play is how young children explore the world. Through play they practise paying attention, remembering, using words, solving small problems and recognising feelings.

Purposeful play simply means that an activity has a clear, age-appropriate idea behind it. NIVA activities are designed that way.

Why parent involvement matters

Young children learn most from the people around them. An app can offer an activity, but it is the conversation with a trusted adult that gives it meaning.

That is why NIVA is designed for shared use: sit together, talk about what is on the screen, and praise effort rather than results.

Short activities for everyday routines

NIVA activities are short. A few minutes is enough.

Choose a calm moment that suits your family and stop as soon as your child loses interest. The aim is a good few minutes, not a long session.

How progress information works

NIVA records the results of the activities your child plays. In the parent area you can see which activities were played and how they went.

This information helps NIVA select age-appropriate activities and adjust difficulty. It describes gameplay only and is not a developmental assessment.

Real-world play alongside the screen

Screen-based play works best as a small part of a day full of other kinds of play. You can continue the ideas from NIVA away from the screen:

  • Sort socks, spoons or building blocks by colour or size.
  • Count steps, fruit or toys together.
  • Name feelings while reading a picture book.
  • Make simple patterns with everyday objects and ask what comes next.

What NIVA is not

NIVA is not intended to replace:

  • parents and caregivers
  • teachers and early-years educators
  • paediatricians
  • professional developmental assessment

NIVA is a play product. If you have any concern about your child's development or health, please consult a qualified professional.
